Sunderban Project: We're beginning to fund a new project in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. A group of nuns are looking to renovate a convent that had been bombed in the war in order to house 30 young girls from the Internally Displaced Persons camps. All of the girls have finished their secondary education and are waiting to begin either university or vocational training. The house will be a safe haven for them to continue their education as it will protect them from being trafficked

Solar Panel Project

August 28, 2009 SAMBAL has recently been able to help contribute solar panel lighting to the Sillalai Children's Home. This contribution was made possible by generous donations and a discounted price given by Lions Club member D.A.G. Lakshman Jayasuriya, the Managing Director of Alpha Solar Energy Systems (Pvt) Ltd.(http://www.solartherm.lk) The project was coordinated and executed by Inner Colombo Lions Club President Emmanuel Joseph, and the panels were installed by Fr. Jeyakumar of HUDEC. The new solar panel lighting will enable the children to progress with their studies despite frequent power cuts in the area.
